Tetra Aviation MK-5 eVTOL Is an Electric Plane for the Skies

Tetra Aviation’s new electric aircraft, dubbed the Mk-5, is single-seat eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take Off & Landing) that will allow you to fly up to 100 miles safely, silently and emissions free.

The aircraft was recently unveiled at the EAA AirVenture event at the Wittman Regional Airport in Wisconsin. The eplane took 3.5 years to create and looks kind of like a pod racer from the Star Wars movies.

Made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers and aluminum, the 1,000 pound Mk-5 measures about 28 feet wide by 20 feet long by 7 feet high. The aircraft is equipped with 32 vertical rotors on four fixed-wing planes along with one horizontal thrust at the rear to help it soar through the skies. Power comes from a 13.5 kWh battery that will allow the Mk-5 to fly up to 100 mph for 100 miles.

The cockpit accommodates just one person. You fly the single seater via a joystick and semiautomatic fly-by-wire electrical controls. The idea being that the Mk-5 will be easy enough for both novices and professionals pilots.

Tetra Aviation plans to start delivery the Mk-5 as a kit plane as in 2022, and they’re taking pre-orders for it right now.
