He is adorable

Chronology

He is intelligent. He is Dexter Morgan, America’s favorite serial killer who spends his days solving crimes and his nights committing them. During Season 8, Angel Batista was not always played by David Zayas. His son David Zayas Jr. he stands in for his father in some photos, as the two look remarkably alike.

Visible throughout the first season, Dexter has a large scar on his left side. Later in season two, the scar moved to the right side, leaving the left side unmarked. Greenberg, and the cast includes Buffy/Angel Julie Benz)

After four episodes, I’m ready to proclaim that this is the best show on television right now, a show that might one day rank alongside The Sopranos and the first season of Twin Peaks as the second best show of all time (after the incomparable Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of the show’s producers and writers is former Buffy writer Drew Z. Dexter is a sociopath, someone who has no human feelings and therefore no natural, inner moral compass, and has an unquenchable bloodlust that drives him to kill. But he had the great grace of being the adopted child of a cop, who (as we see in great flashbacks) managed to instill in him a complete moral code that he adheres to on a strictly intellectual level. It’s a pretty brilliant concept (which I assume comes from the novels it’s based on) that allows the authors to explore the nature of moral behavior and what it means to be human (Dexter is, in a sense, an alien). Another thing the series does brilliantly is move at different speeds in parallel.

The cast and production are fantastic

There’s a main story that seems to span the entire season (concerning a cat-and-mouse game between Dexter and a serial killer) and a side arc involving Dexter’s sister’s police career. The first few episodes include a very strong final arc involving one of Dexter’s fellow cops and a local crime lord, while two of the four episodes so far have also included a standalone story inserted between the current stories (and which they play with them). We’ve seen the future of TV season structuring and this is it. While the writing isn’t up to House’s best, it’s excellent. The only reason you wouldn’t want to watch this absolutely brilliant series is the frequent use of extremely explicit imagery: there’s probably been more severed body parts shown in these first four episodes than in the first four episodes of all the other TV series.

If you can stomach it, tune in for a fascinating insight into what makes us human or inhuman.
